A RECENT celebration to mark 100 years of Okehampton College welcomed former students who travelled from all over the country to mark the special day.
As well as 81-year-old ex-student Ron Goodenough, guests also included Albert Yelland, 85, who attended the centenary with his cousin, Mrs Kathleen Westcott, a former pupil and teacher at the college.
Mr Yelland, who attended the college from 1935 to 1942, said he enjoyed his return to the college.
He said: 'It was my first visit since I left in 1942 and it was very interesting to see the amazing changes that have taken place.
'I saw yet another cousin who had been back to the college many times because her children went there.
'I walked around with her and her grandson who is starting there in September, so there will be several generations who've attended.'
Mr Yelland, who now lives in Cumbria, was born and lived in Hatherleigh up until the age of 18 when he left for university and the forces.
He added: 'I visit Hatherleigh once a year, but I'm not sure if I will go to the college again, so it was very nice to go back and have a look around.'
To mark the event guests enjoyed browsing a memory room which was full of old memorabilia, as well as a slide show, stalls, a raffle, a welly throwing competition, a blind hook-a-duck game and willow tree planting.
