KELLY House welcomed an old friend recently as a former wartime evacuee returned to visit the house.

Elizabeth Higgins spent several months at Kelly House in 1944 to escape the V1 rockets that caused devastation in London at the time.

She contacted the Kelly family to arrange a visit after seeing the house on the Channel 4 programme, Country House Rescue.

Worin Kelly said: 'When she saw the TV programme she contacted us and said she'd like to come down again.

'On the programme we were clearing out the old kitchen where she, her mother and sister had been billeted in the war. She said her mother had cooked on a big range which isn't there anymore.

'She was fascinated to see that room, and it was interesting for us to find out more about what the house was like back then. It brought back lots of memories for her, and we were able to learn more.

'There were various airmen billeted here and we'd really like to know more about them, like what units they came from. We're trying to find out who else was around in the war.'
