THOUSANDS of spectators lined the streets of Okehampton and Hatherleigh when The Tour of Britain passed through an excited flag bearing crowd last week.
The cyclists passed through Hatherleigh around 9.30am on Friday.
Residents packed the streets and celebrated with a 10ft paper bike float, followed by children from Hatherleigh Primary School riding through on their bikes.
Event co-organiser Geoff Hodgkinson said the day was a great success: 'Hatherleigh punched well above its weight and it was a fabulous day.
'We had a fantastic turnout and a really great crowd and I think everybody had a wonderful time.
'It all went so quickly, but it was an amazing day.
'The bike float looked fabulous and the children really enjoyed the whole event.
'They were so excited on their small bikes and loved it when the police motor bikes came past and tooted their horns.'
The tour then made its way down through to Okehampton at around 10.30am, where the cyclists were greeted by cheering children and pavements lined with supporters.
Roads were closed to allow the cyclists to pass through.
Sgt Mark Hoar from Okehampton Police Station said the event went smoothly: 'We would like to thank the public for their co-operation during the event.
'With this co-operation we were able to carry out the road closure safely for the benefit of the general public and especially the school children who attended.
'The neighbourhood team were delighted to be involved with this successful community occasion, which was helped by the good weather.
'We'd like to say a special thank you to those motorists who waited so patiently — it was just an absolutely fantastic day.'
