Whitchurch v Mount Wise
WHITCHURCH won the toss and decided to field. The Mount Wise openers batted sensibly against the bowling of Newton and Smith, before Smith ripped through Knight?s defence. Webber and Stephenson continued the steady progress, until Coulston?s yorker dismissed Webber.
Whitchurch then took control with steady bowling backed up by superb fielding which kept Mount Wise pegged back apart from the occasional boundary from the watchful Stephenson, when he was bowled by Hammond, the innings collapsed to 95 all out.
Whitchurch?s openers got off to a steady start, before Probert was caught. Sensible batting by Smith and Newton added 31 runs before Smith was caught attempting to raise the scoring rate.
From then on the bowlers and fielders held a tight grip, with each run hard won and Whitchurch could not accelerate the run rate. Newton was out in the 19th over for a well-constructed 28 and Whitchurch ended some 22 runs short of the winning total.
