A burglar has been jailed for stealing £2,000 worth of cigarettes from a corner shop in a smash and grab raid.

Exeter Crown Court heard that Patrick Fenlon targeted the Co-op shop at?Hatherleigh because of its relative isolated location.

He was caught on CCTV casing the shop shortly before the 5am raid in which he smashed a window and then forced the secure cabinet housing the tobacco.

Fenlon, 34, who was living rough on the streets of Barnstaple at the time, admitted burglary and was jailed for 14 months by Judge John Neligan.
