TWO branches of the Royal British Legion joined at St Peter's Church, Lamerton, last Sunday, to commemorate the beginning of the First World War. The branches from Lamerton and Tavistock were involved in a procession to the cemetery, which started at Lamerton School, where the service began led by lay reader Ian Silcox. Lamerton Bell Ringers rang a muffled peal on the bells during the procession back to the church. During the service Gerald Cramp gave an interesting talk on the five soldiers from Lamerton who were killed during the war and whose names are on the memorial. The church wardens expressed thanks to all who contributed to making the tribute so successful. The collection of £260 has been sent to the Royal British Legion. Following the service 40 members of the congregation gathered at the local inn for lunch. l Some of those involved in the service and procession are pictured above, by Lamerton war memorial.
