A VETERAN manager of the Ten Tors expedition is embarking on a mammoth moorland challenge of his own to raise money for a charity providing holidays for disabled and seriously ill people in the South West.
Edward Thompson from Torquay is a special needs teacher, and has been preparing youngsters with special needs for the Ten Tors Jubilee challenge for more than 20 years.
Over Easter, Edward is planning on climbing a minimum of 100 tors in a ten-day trek that starts from Widecombe-in-the-Moor on Monday April 2.
Visiting a series of Dartmoor inns along the route, he intends to pop in to the Bearslake Inn in Sourton on April 8 and The Tors in Belstone the following night.
If all goes to plan, Edward will end up back in Widecombe on Wednesday April 11.
The trek is to raise money for Dream-a-Way, a charity that provides holidays and day trips for people with physical and learning difficulties in Devon, Cornwall and the Scilly Isles.
The holidays give people and their carers a break from the everyday routines and provides exciting opportunities not readily available for many.
Edward is hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity.
