Devon seconds C

Yelverton seconds v Clyst Hydon seconds

YELVERTON seconds had a disappointing visit to East Devon, losing by eight wickets to previously winless Clyst Hydon.

Clyst Hydon's ranks were bolstered by the inclusion of John Rhodes, the former Devon all-rounder.

Yelverton elected to bat, and openers Chris Cottrell and skipper Gavin Jones found runs hard to come by against Rhodes (17-0) and Oz Besley (24-1).

Jones fell for 2 bowled by Besley before the second wicket pair of Cottrell and Jay Warner (9) added 52.

Warner was bowled by a shooter from Hine which barely bounced with the score on 67 and it was a procession of batsmen as Hine (16-5) took another four wickets, all bowled to leave the Bohemians on 110-6.

Ben Pearson (13) and Chris Cottrell tried to get the innings back on track, but when Cottrell was unluckily run-out backing up at the bowlers end when a drive from Pearson was deflected onto the stumps, the innings subsided to 129 all out off 41.2 overs.

On Clyst Hydon's small ground, 129 never looked defendable and so it proved as Besley (35) and Holmes (38 not out) got the home side up to 80-2.

Rhodes entered the fray to score a quickfire 34 not out as Clyst Hydon reached 133-2 after 24.2 overs despite the best efforts of bowlers Ben Pearson, Dom Rushton and Tony Carter (5-3-20-1).

Clyst Hydon seconds (20pts) beat Yelverton seconds (3pts) by eight wickets.
