ON June 22, the day after the longest day of the year, the ladies' three ball better ball open started off in rain and a cold wind at Yelverton Golf Club.

There were 117 entrants from clubs all over Devon and Cornwall looking forward to the competition at Yelverton, which started at 9am and finished at 2.30pm.

The winning trio were from Falmouth Golf Club — K Wells, P Clifton and J Wooldridge.

The weather improved as the day went on, and as entrants came back into the club house it was evident that the improved weather brought with it better scores.

There was only one 'two'  on the sixth by R Williams from Tiverton.
