IT was cold but dry at Tavistock RFC when teams from Lamerton, Lifton, Meavy, Whitchurch, St Peter's, St Andrew's, Bere Alston, Horrabridge and Tavistock primary schools took part in the local tag rugby tournament.

Meavy, who entered two teams into the competition emerged as the winners of the small school event and Whitchurch, despite strong competition from Bere Alston and St Andrew's, Buckland Monachorum, won the large schools' tournament for the eighth year in a row.

Bere Alston and St Andrew's were tied in second place but Bere Alston received the runner's up position by scoring one more try during the afternoon.

All three schools plus Meavy now go through to the West Devon finals on April 25. These will be held in Okehampton.
