Okehampton Argyle Ladies 2 Brixham Villa 10 WITH only eight players for the majority of the game, members of Okehampton Argyle Ladies' team played extremely well, in what was the last friendly before the season begins. Starting with only nine players, with one becoming injured after ten minutes, the remainder of the first half was with eight players. The majority of Brixhams goals in the first half were from crosses out wide where they were making good use of their extra three players. Okehampton did have a few chances and were unlucky not to see their shots hit the net, and at the other end Maddy Fox pulled off some good saves in goal. At half time, Kay Garrett and Summer Piper put on the Okehampton ladies' kit. Brixham came out of the blocks in the second half a lot quicker and had soon doubled their lead to 8-0, they made it 9 not long after before Kelly Gilbert hit a 30 yard screamer from a free kick. Brixham pegged Okehampton back again making it 10-1 with 20 minutes to go. The last 20 minutes Okehampton dominated and then scored the goal of the game. It was a brilliant team goal starting with Kelly Gilbert laying the ball to Charles Genduso who in turn laid it off to Shiv Aslett who then played a delightful ball through to Emily Martin. Seeing the keeper had come off her line Emily lobbed the ball high over the keeper into the net. Okehampton had a few more chances to add to their tally but were unable to find the target on a number of occasions. Player of the match was Hayley Vincent. Any women interested in signing up for the team come along to training on Fridays at 7pm at the club in Simmons Park.
