LEW Trenchard School played host to its annual cross country event.

Seven schools took part — Lew Trenchard, Lifton, Hatherleigh, Mary Tavy and Brentor, Exbourne, Bridestowe and Whitchurch with more than 80 runners taking part.

Fortunately the event managed to avoid the recent bad weather and organisers said there were a couple of competitive and well run races.

Results: Girls: 1, Emma Crease (Lew Trenchard); 2, Indie Horn (Bridestowe); 3, Charlotte Summersby (Lew Trenchard). Boys: 1, William Russell (Lifton); 2, Josh Craddock (Lew Trenchard); 3, Ben Hunt (Lew Trenchard).

Team: 1, Lew Trenchard; 2, Mary Tavy and Brentor; 3, Bridestowe.

Lew Trenchard School headteacher Tim Woodward said: 'Great thanks are due to all those who took part and made this a memorable afternoon. I would like to thank all the staff and parents who worked so hard to make the event go so smoothly by marshalling, providing refreshments and welcoming all the other schools. Thanks also to Lewdown Cricket Club for allowing us to use their facilities.'
