Chagford seconds

v Whitchurch seconds

A BEAUTIFUL day saw a cracking game between Chagford and Whitchurch. The home side batted first making a comfortable start with openers Holland (103) and Pemberthy (21) cautiously dealing with Northey (1 for 46) and Hall (0-11).

With Hall having to leave the field Whitchurch were suddenly a bowler light. Downham (2-28) made inroads into the Chagford line up. With Holland now getting into his stride the runs started to flow.

On the large outfield and one fielder down Whitchurch struggled to contain the total. At tea a total of 269 seemed quite daunting for the visitors.

The second innings fluctuated and there were times when a Whitchurch win was seriously on the cards. Strong knocks by Credicott (52) and Meadows (47) began to make serious inroads into the total after a solid opening by Alford (25).

It needed one other batsman to turn a start into a commanding innings to tip the balance.

The introduction of Nayman (3-63) proved to be the turning point. He had Meadows well caught in the deep. Ollie McCrae (29) provided some stout later resistance but Nayman nipped out the remainder of the tail and Whitchurch fell just short as the visitors were all out for 256.
