Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier Tavistock AFC 1
Bodmin Town 2
THE LAMBS put in a tremendous performance against champions-elect Bodmin Town and were unfortunate to concede the deciding goal in stoppage time. Bodmin now have a nine point lead over their nearest rivals Plymouth Parkway with a game in hand.
The home team had to rearrange their starting line up, with Paul Quinn and Ian Holmes unavailable and Ben Davies through injury.
Both teams played some really attractive football on a pitch that was in perfect condition despite continuous rain throughout the day.
The Lambs started well and created the first opportunity in the 17th minute but Carlton Farnham failed to convert as his shot was deflected for a corner kick.
Bodmin made the home team pay, taking the lead in the 25th minute when former Lamb Shane Krac was fouled 23 yards from goal. Krac took the kick bending his shot around the defensive wall into the corner of the goal. This lifted the visitors and they had a good spell of possession but the Lambs defence were in great form.
Just prior to the interval Carlton Farnham made a great run down the right flank, his fine cross into the six yard box was just out of the reach of the on rushing Joe Carey.
After the interval the Lambs continued to have their fair share of possession and put some real pressure on the Bodmin defence. They were rewarded in the 56th minute when they opened up the visitors' defence, as Ian Rooke and Joe Carey combined well to set up Carlton Farnham, who slotted the ball past Miller.
The game continued to flow from end to end with both sides seeking a winning goal. Both Farnham and Wyatt went close for the home team, while a Krac free kick was well off target for the visitors.
As the game went into stoppage time a draw looked the likely result, but substitute Luke Doddridge sent over a fierce cross into the Lambs penalty area, where the unfortunate Lambs defender Jamie Ahern, who had an outstanding game, put through his own goal while under pressure from Adam Carter, in a goalmouth scramble
This was a great team effort by the Lambs, as there was little to choose between the two sides and deserved to at least of had a share of the points. Praise must go to all the players for their individual performances, and effort.
The defence were in great form with a midfield that was full of energy and equal to the highly rated opposition. The front line really tested the visitors' defence and could consider them selves unlucky not to have added to their goal tally.
Tavistock youngsters Robbins, Moorhead, Northmore and Johnson once again showed that they are more than capable of playing at this level.
