Bodmin Town 3

Tavistock AFC 2

THE Lambs put in a fine performance at Priory Park, and were unlucky not to come away with at least a share of the points. They lost out by the odd goal in this five goal thriller.

The visitors got off to a fast start and settled into their passing game. They were rewarded for their fine start when they took a deserved lead in the tenth minute. A fine move saw the ball find Ian Rook on the edge of the penalty area, his thunderous shot went in off the underside of the cross bar.

This spurred Bodmin into action and they came back strongly, but the visitors' defence held firm and kept any threat under control, with the team operating well as a unit.

The Lambs doubled their lead on the half hour when a long ball from defence found Carlton Farnham who beat a defender and shot low and true in the corner of the net from 18 yards.

The hosts then put the Lambs defence under pressure and Chris Wright went close on two occasions, but the visitors took a two goal lead into the interval.

The one thing that the Lambs did not want was to concede an early goal in the second half, but the half was only three minutes old when good work by Lee Doel and Jon Ludlam allowed Chris Wright to score. This goal lifted Bodmin and they began to get the upper hand and put the Lambs under pressure. However Dean Smith in the visitors' goal was in great form dealing with any danger, from the home attack. The Lambs defence were really digging in now as Bodmin pushed for an equaliser.

The home side equalised with 12 minutes to go following a corner kick and goalmouth scramble, but the ball kindly fell to Doel and he slotted home from six yards.

In the 89th minute the home team were awarded a penalty kick which Luke Hodge converted confidently.

The Lambs were desperately unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

Once again manager Ian Southcott had to make a number of changes due to unavailability of four players. To be fair, those that took the field put in a really great performance to take last year's champions so close.

l This Saturday the first team are away to Cullompton Rangers in the FA Vase with a 3pm kick off.
