TRIATHLETE Trish Deykin has had more success in the European Triathlon Championships.

Trish Deykin, who lives in Milton Combe, took part in the European Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships on Saturday, which were held in Glasgow.

The weather was perfect for the 750 metre swim in Stathclyde Loch, a 20 kilometre bike ride followed by a five kilometre run to the finish.

Trish, who suffers from MS, said: ‘I got battered and bruised in the swim but managed to get out of the melee after the first buoy.  The bike was three laps of a very hilly course, but after cycling around West Devon it didn’t bother me. By the second lap I knew I was in the lead.

‘The run was lovely around the loch and one of the officials said I was two minutes ahead.  I couldn’t believe it but thought I’d better not become complacent.  By the time I had reached the blue carpet to the finish line I knew I’d won.

‘Not only had I won my age group but it turned out that I was the fastest female out of all the age groups with an overall time of 1 hour 09 minutes 06 seconds.  I’ve now regained my European Champion title and now it’s time for me to retire from the international scene.

‘My MS is telling me to slow down but I’m not giving up, I plan to do local events and also the British Championships.

‘I’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Mount Kelly Swim Centre, Mansbridge Balment, Barton Garage, Active Co and Rockin Bikes.’
