EIGHT senior and masters swimmers represented Tavistock Swimming Club at the British Masters National Long Course Championships held at Plymouth Life Centre.
Yvonne Carpenter-Warren, Nathaniel Rookes, James Lake, Josh Lake and Chris Anderson competed in a total of 18 individual events, gaining two bronze medals - Yvonne in the 200 metres breaststroke and Chris in the 100 metres backstroke, seven fourth places and six other top ten finishes.
These five swimmers were joined by Liz Webb, Elise Beaumont and Kelly Rice for the men's, women's and mixed freestyle and medley relays where they won a further bronze medal (the men's medley - Nathaniel, Josh, James and Chris).
In the other relays they gained two fourth places, a fifth, a sixth and an eighth. This was a strong performance with several personal best times from the newly formed masters' section at Tavistock Swimming Club, competing against more than 550 swimmers from across the UK.
The swimmers, some new to competition and some returning to the sport all thoroughly enjoyed their weekend. They are now looking forward to competing in both the Devon County and the South West Masters Championships later this year.
The club also intends to send a team to the British National Short Course Championships in the autumn.
Tavistock Swimming Club have up to 12 masters swimmers training at Meadowlands on Tuesday evenings from 8pm. It is a sociable training session and you do not need to be a strong swimmer to join in and age is no bar — the weekend's racing at the Life Centre saw competitors from 18 up to 81 — all having a great time. There are great opportunities to increase your fitness and health.
