TAVISTOCK AC athletes have been competing in national contests to conclude the cross country season.

The two competitions – the Inter Counties and English Schools both require selection for the county to be eligible to run. The strength in depth at Tavistock AC often means that it has representation in both the Cornish and Devon teams.

The 2018 representation for the club was outstanding, with 11 athletes being picked for the Inter Counties Championship and eight athletes being picked for the English Schools.

Club chair Alistair Kinsey said: ‘This is the highest number of athletes ever selected to represent their county from the club at these cross country events and we’re delighted that their hard work has been recognised.

‘The athletes have performed superbly over the winter and the club is extremely proud of them. A county vest to compete at national level is something the athlete will always remember.’

Both the inter counties held at Loughborough on March 10 and the English Schools on March 17 in Leeds were held in atrocious conditions – strong winds, heavy mud courses and freezing temperatures.
