CONSERVATIVE A took over pole position in the Tavistock Snooker league by leap frogging Conservative B with a well worked 4-1win away to a strong Golf A side.

The tone was set by Con A’s skipper Carruthers with a solid win over Golf A’s Whitley, a 20 break thrown in for good measure.

Bell for the Con A, put last year’s run of poor form well and truly behind him with an assertive potting display to overrun Golf A’s Wylie and put his side 2-0 up. Back came Golf A with Turnbull keeping up his 100 per cent record as he took out Babb in a low scoring frame. Back came Con A with Evans (senior) getting the edge on Ruth in a frame that could have gone either way, both players showing some good potting touches in a pink ball frame.

The fourth for Con A came courtesy of Lacey who controlled his frame despite some superb ‘one off’ pots from his opponent Pope.

Conservative Z, if not off to a flying start in the new year, had a confident start with a win against West Devon C. Steady point scoring gradually overcame McKechnie to take the frame.

Two old adversaries, Fitzsimmons for the Con Z and Williams of West Devon C saw the former outperform the latter who looked impressive enough to begin. Grigg was not to be intimidated as he beat Williamson to level the scores.

Shrimpton for West Devon C played his usual steady game and looked to have Mayors on the back foot, but some sharp potting from Mayors brought him back into what turned into a tight game, 47- 44 in favour the Con Z player.

The surprise of the evening was Symons of Con Z who outplayed the consistent Hodge, racking up a 22 break in the process and making it 3-1 to the Con Z. Con Z’s top ranking player Jankowski played Wannacott; however, Jankowski was slightly off colour and allowed Wannacott to surge in front, a position he never relinquished enabling the D team to steal a vital point.
