Devon D Yelverton firsts v Babbacombe AFTER last week's disappointing loss, Yelverton registered their fourth win of the season against leaders Babbacombe and so consolidated second place only five points behind the leaders. Batting first, the Bohemians struggled against the visitors' attack of Kingdom and overseas player Van Wyk. The usually reliable Geoff Brain fell for six and fellow opener Matt Tamsett for 11 to leave the Bohemians on 18-2. Dave Scott failed to trouble the scorers, and when skipper Richard West went for two, the home team were wobbling at 38-4. It worsened as Jason Gilbert (7) and Ignatius McBride (19) both departed to leave the innings on 54-6. The seventh wicket pair of Anis Zubair (13) and Iain Cunningham got their heads down in a partnership of 64 to get the innings back on track. When Zubair departed with the score on 118, Cunningham was joined by James Harrison out in the middle and the pair took the attack to the visitors as they added 70 in for the eighth wicket. Both fell with the score on 188, Harrison for a quickfire 42 and Cunningham for his league best of 54. Pat Hobbs (24), batting at number ten, rubbed salt further into the wounds of the Babbacombe attack adding a further 25 for the last wicket before the innings closed on 213. In reply, a great team bowling and fielding performance described by skipper Richard Goldsby-West as 'one of the best ever' saw the home side dismiss the visitors for 167 off 42.4 overs to secure a 46 run victory. James Harrison (2-20) and Rich West (2-44) took a brace of wickets each with all the other bowlers keeping disciplined line and length to frustrate the visitors' batting line up. n This Saturday Yelverton are away to Seaton, 2pm start.
