RIDERS from the Tavistock Wheelers' North Shore Gallery Team went from strength to strength in the Stag's Head Road Race at South Molton. It was a superb team effort with perfectly executed tactics which resulted in an excellent win for the team's new signing Huw Richards, with Phil Collings taking second place. Riders were pushing the pace right from the start and after 15-miles Huw made a break along with another rider. It was not long before Huw's strength saw him riding solo and destined for the win. The rest of the team controlled the peloton with great skill and Lee Adams unselfishly working hard to ensure his team mate secured victory. With Huw out of sight, it was now a race for second place and on the final climb Phil Collings unleashed an explosive display of power to storm past 20 riders and take second place. Dan Strong produced another solid performance to take tenth. n There was also a tremendous result for the Tavistock Wheelers' youth race in the circuit racing at Barnstaple. Stan Barker took his first points with an excellent second place. It was a shame for Matt Ambrose who took his first tumble whilst chasing third place but leapt back on the bike to finish fourth. Four of the club's youth riders managed to finish in the points in two different events in the past week. The support they have received from parents and other club members has made a big difference and shows how being a member of a supportive club environment can help to raise standards and aspirations.
