STAFF and students at Tavistock College enjoyed a friendly but competitive game of limited overs cricket last Thursday as the summer briefly returned.
The match was played in memory of much loved and missed mathematics teacher, Andy White, who very sadly died last year after contracting a brain tumour.
James O'Connell, a spokesperson for the college, said: 'Andy was a long standing teacher at the school, with a dry and keen sense of humour and a passion for cricket, young people's development and maths. He is sorely missed.'
The match was well supported by staff and students and several upstanding members of the Devon cricket scene. Andy's widow, Ruth, and daughter, Jess, also spectated.
Contrary to expectations and the bookies' odds, the staff beat the students quite convincingly with 164 runs against 102. The standard was variable and some very unorthodox batting and bowling was in evidence, but it's hoped that Andy would have enjoyed it!
