FOUR Tavistock Swimming Club members thoroughly enjoyed the experience and atmosphere of competing in their first nationals event amongst the British medallists and at an event where British records were broken.

Senior swimmers Nathaniel Rookes, Kieran Rookes, James Anderson and Cameron McGurk travelled to Sheffield for the ASA National Winter Meet where they competed in the 4x100m medley relay — placing the club in the top 20 clubs in Britain.

Nathaniel Rookes started the relay by swimming the 100m backstroke in a time which was close to his personal best. A good change over to his brother Kieran to swim the next leg of the relay – 100m breaststroke – enabled them to maintain their good position.

James Anderson swam the next leg – the 100m butterfly – again in a time which was close to his personal best. The final leg of the 100m freestyle was swum by Cameron McGurk.

Kieran Rookes swam in the individual 50m breaststroke, having qualified for the event at the ASA South West Winter Championships at Millfield, Street in November. He produced a very good performance in his first individual appearance at the Nationals and finished a highly creditable position in the top 50 of the 90 competitors who competed.
