IT had been an action packed weekend for Tavistock Running Project members with races across differing parts of the country.
With an early start on Sunday, four members took part in the Plymouth 10k —Jordan Andrews, Chris Rimmer, Crispin Chambers (representing Tavistock Run Project) and Matthew Head (representing Cornwall Athletics Club). Everyone gave 110% today with Crispin finishing in a strong time of 40 minutes 46 seconds coming fifth overall in the male veterans over 50 age group.
Matt Head achieved an excellent personal best of 38 minutes 59 seconds and 27th overall; despite recent illness preventing him from training. Jordan and Chris took the race on and battled it out together with Jordan winning the race overall and coming home in a brilliant time of 32.51. Chris came a strong second place overall in another superb time of 33.30.
Meanwhile up in Chester, a marathon was taking place. Having achieved a sixth place to win in her age group last year at Bournemouth marathon, Sam Lake had been selected to represent England in the qnew marathon masters series.
During her race Sam’s children, Joel and Miley, and husband James Lake, ran in the Chester Mini Marathon where Joel achieved a respectable fifth place.
The marathon itself, took Sam through a challenging and undulating route through the narrow, country lanes of Chester and the surrounding area. This was Sam’s 15th marathon and without a doubt one of her toughest both mentally and physically.
She finished with her second best marathon time ever of 3 hours 07 seven minutes 35 seconds in 17th place overall and eighth in the female veterans 35, also scoring some much needed points for England in the series!
