THERE was a strong turnout by Tavistock Run Project members at their official debut race this weekend, with nine members taking part in the Tavy 7 race at Plaisterdown, Tavi-stock on Sunday.
This popular, local race had 600 runners taking part. Despite the tough weather conditions and undulating course, it was set to be an exciting race.
There was a hard fought battle for the top three spots during the race. Eventually culminating in all top three places being claimed by the TRP team. Running home for the win was Jordan Andrews, racing strongly throughout, in a superb time of 38 minutes 36 seconds. Next up was a gutsy performance from Jim Cole who finished in second place with a great time of 39.12.
To complete the trio of podium places was Ben Neale who finished third in an excellent two minutes better than his personal best, in 39.34.
Following not far behind them was Steve Watson who also finished with a cracking PB of 45.47, placing 21st overall and fourth in his age group. Next up in the strong male contingent of TRP was James Armstrong; a new member of the club, and first timer at the tough Tavy 7. He ran a great race in a great time of 46.26, finishing 28th overall and 15th senior male. Finally, for the TRP men was Addie Cusack, another new member to the club, who finished in a respectable 56.01.
Meanwhile, for the women, Rachael Malthouse ran a strong race, finishing second female overall in a great time of 46.20 followed by Sam Lake, who finished third overall and first in her age category in a time of 47.35. Next up for the ladies was another new member, Jodi Fisk, who had completed the Chicago marathon just two weeks prior to this race. She placed seventh lady overall in a fabulous time of 51.51.
This was a fantastic result for the newly affiliated club of Tavistock Run Project.
The runners expressed their thanks to the excellent support they received by Dave Chanter the club coach, other members and friends and family of all the club runners.
