SUNDAY saw the annual South West Cross Country Championships being held at a new course – Aldon Hill at Yeovil. Aldon Hill is the stately home of the Batten family and the wonderful parklands are used for cross country racing and horse events. Conditions on the way were sunny, but very cold with a high of 5 degrees.

Tavistock Athletic Club had 25 runners competing throughout the afternoon, most of them also representing the Devon county cross country team and a few representing Cornwall.

The club had a triumphant day with everyone having strong runs. There was an individual winner in the under 15 boys with Oliver Smart taking gold, a team silver medal for the under 15 boys, a team bronze for the under 17 boys as well as helping Devon to team golds in the senior men’s race, the under 15 boys, and the under 13 girls.
