Okehampton ladies’ firsts 0
Tavistock ladies’ first 3
OKEHAMPTON ladies were excited get on the pitch for the first game of the season against local rivals Tavistock.
The home side started strongly, moving the ball around well between the speedy midfield Molly Marvin and wingers Anna Speak and Sophia Marshall, however Tavistock attacked deter-minedly.
Laura Parsons and keeper Alice Wiseman had their work cut out organising the Oke defence, but held off the Tavistock attacks with Abi Colton halting many efforts from Tavistock’s left wing, Nicky Pedrick chasing down attacks from the right and captain Sophie Whiteley clearing a penalty from the line.
Unfortunately for Oke the heat got to the home team, with some tiredness meaning Tavistock were able to win a short corner that was duly converted, breaking the deadlock.
Okehampton worked hard to create more attacks, with a high flying effort from Hannah Whiteley soaring above the crossbar, and Oke player of the match Emily Rowlands giving the Tavistock defence plenty of work to do.
Midfield and wingers Lesley Bingham and Molly Petherbridge worked hard, both when Oke were on the attack and defence in this end to end game, but Tavistock had an eye for the goal and scored twice more.
In the dying seconds of the match, goal hungry Okehampton went on the break once more, with Kim Davey raising her stick but unable to complete her strike before the final whistle was blown.
