Tavistock College have impressed, winning their latest match in the English Schools Football Association U18 Boys Cup to reach the last 32.
They are now one match away from the last 16 with an impressive 3-0 victory over Shebbear College at Ashbury Manor 3G, overcoming difficult conditions to produce a dominant and disciplined performance.
Tavistock adapted well to the challenging conditions, quickly establishing control. Their reward came after 15 minutes when Riley Rowe produced an excellent long pass from deep inside his own half. The ball split the defence and released Ollie Emptage through on goal. Emptage calmly lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to give Tavistock a deserved lead.
The goal settled Tavistock, who dictated proceedings and created better chances. In the 28th minute Emptage doubled his tally and Tavistock's advantage. The forward was again in the right place at the right time to finish clinically and put the visitors firmly in control before half-time.
Leading 2-0 at the break, Tavistock continued to dominate large periods after the break. Despite the conditions making flowing football difficult at times, the team managed the game intelligently, limiting Shebbear's opportunities while looking dangerous going forward.
The result was put beyond doubt ten minutes from time. Following a Tavistock corner, Dan Udo rose highest to guide his effort into the top-right corner, capping off an excellent team performance and sealing a convincing 3-0 victory.
The clean sheet was thoroughly deserved, with the Tavistock defence remaining organised throughout, while the midfield and forwards worked tirelessly to maintain pressure. It was a mature display from a side comfortable for much of the match.
The victory, on Thursday, October 22, sees Tavistock progress to the next round, to meet Truro School or Torquay Academy away from home, with a place in the last 16 teams in the country at stake.
Goal scorers: Ollie Emptage on 15 and 28 minutes and Dan Udo on 80 minutes.
