A BRIGHT crisp morning greeted the men's squad of Tamar and Tavy Gig Club this weekend at the Newquay County Gig Championships.

Sea conditions were good, but a stiff offshore breeze made the race a challenge and Tamar and Tavy support was as strong as ever.

The team, pictured above from the left, Mike Vosper (cox), Richard Anstey, Chris Dill, Andy Moreton, Nick Bailey, John McGrane and Tim Brodribb, put in an outstanding and determined effort, coming fourth in their heat.

They managed to stay out of trouble when two gigs in front of them came extremely close together and at the end of the heat the fourth place was hard won from the crew of Lark.  Their performance was a real and credible improvement from last year.

The competition saw 14 heats, six crews in each for round one and with passage to the next round dependent on times achieved it was a harsh blow, that T and T were seconds off going through.

However, the team have come away very positive with work to do and great hopes for 2013.
