THERE are GLAM girls enjoying some taster sporting sessions at Tavistock College.

As a result of Tavistock College being part of the  Youth Sport Trust Girls Active programme its Key Stage 4 students, known as the GLAM  (Girls, Leadership and Marketing) girls, have had lots of great opportunities this term.

These include a visit to The College of St Mark and St John where they tried out yoga, spinning and trampolining.

The group have also been working closely with Tavistock Community Sports Centre where they experienced a wide range of exercise classes with the hope that this will encourage participation in and out of school.

Brit Spirit Martial Arts group, led by Peter Smith, who is a third degree black belt in Taekwon Do and kickboxing, came into school to deliver a taster session.

Peter said that the girls enjoyed it and a few had said they would like to have more sessions — so  an extra-curricular club has been started.

Shaun Hulbert, head of PE at Tavistock College said: ‘As a result of these opportunities we are already seeing an increase in participation and a definite change in attitude from these young ladies.’
