EARLIER this month, Tavistock Athletic Club's Trevor Williams was on the start-line along with 10,000 others, competing in the Mitja Marato do Granollers – the Granollers Half Marathon, in Catalonia, Spain.
This race is one of the most popular half marathons in Spain attracting international athletes - this year's winner was the 2012 Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda.
The flat-ish course takes runners out of the town into rural landscape, with bands playing along the route.
Unfortunately, the start is not staggered so settling into a pace is not easy. Trevor's times for each 5km got faster as the race unfolded, and he crossed the finish line in 1 hour 53 mins 9 secs, earning a gold club award and finishing 11th in his MV65 age category.
Trevor has been dogged by injury for some long time, so it was excellent to see him achieve such a good time and, perhaps more importantly, to finish injury-free.
