THE Six Moor Miles off-road race last month saw a bumper entry from Tavistock Athletic Club. The race is set on tracks and trails in the Maristow Estate with a start and finish at Leg of Mutton, and forms part of the Club's 2012 Grand Prix Series.

The going underfoot was tacky from the outset, but a heavy shower a few minutes into the race made for muddy miles.

Rupert Warren was first club runner to finish, in 14th position overall and third in his age category. James Crisp was less than a minute behind, in 22nd.

First club female was Rebecca Mingo returning to full fitness after injury. Paul Waldron, Pete Bazley and Emer Scanlon all crossed the finish line less than two minutes later, Pete and Emer both finishing second in their age groups. Gary Chater, Andy Houghton, Graham De Val, Amy Kiteley and Darryl Beelby all finished comfortably within the hour. Liz Vernon finished just ahead of Claire and Adrian Pitcher, who ran together.

Kate Rogers made a welcome return to competitive running after injury and finished second in her category just ahead of Sheila Houghton who was third in hers. Caron De Val crossed the line just a few minutes later.

Hannah Crisp competing in her first race. Hannah was mentored round by Rhian Johnson, Jackie Ralph and Lesley Cowie and achieved a very creditable time. Ann Woodhouse, suffering a sprained ankle yards from the finish, brought the TAC contingent home.
