WHILE the World Athletics Championships were reaching their conclusion in Beijing, three Tavistock Athletic Club juniors ran at the England Athletics National Championships for under 17s and under 15s at Bedford.

Josh Davies ran in the 300 metres U15 heats and Jenny Milburn ran in the 800 metres U15s heats on the Saturday and qualified for the final on Sunday.

In the Under 17 Girls Jade Kinsey represented the club in 100 metres and 300 metres heats. With Jenny being one of the youngest in her age group it was always going to be tough in the final. Nevertheless she finished in a fantastic eighth place overall.

Jade, Josh and Jenny all ran very close to their personal bests in their races, which they were delighted with.

Club chair Mhairi McCall said: ‘I’m delighted that with only nine or ten athletes from all of Devon and Cornwall running in the championships, 30 per cent of them came from Tavistock Athletic Club. The club is proud with the hard work these juniors have put in over the season to reach the national championships.’
