TWO runners from Tavistock Athletic Club took part in the annual Torbay Half Marathon.

This is one of the largest races in the South West running calendar with an entry of 2,000 runners.

An early 9am start tends to produce many last minute arrivals but the race got away on time. Many runners would have taken minutes to progress to the start line but electronic 'chip' timing ensures that everyone gets an accurate personal time for the distance.

Tracey Oxborough, running in the 50 to 54 age female category finished in 1hr 41min and 18 secs (a personal best) — winning the category and Andy Houghton managed 1hr 40min and 39 seconds to come second in the 65 to 69 male category.

Tracey has been training hard with coach Martin Exley-Deane and was very pleased with the result and thankful for his help. The surprisingly hilly route is often a rather hot run but the day was cloudy and quite wet and windy so overheating issues were not a problem this year.
