AFTER a break of two months, Sunday saw 18 juniors from Tavistock Athletics Club return to Sportshall action at Plymouth Life Centre.

While numbers were down on last year’s high organisers said it was great seeing some new junior athletes taking part for the first time at round three of the league.

Plymouth is a more challenging venue than Dawlish and so personal best and records were going to be hard to come by but four young TACs broke club records — Sheldon Higgins threw nine metres in the sitting throw; Bea Kinnear leapt 0.52m in the vertical jump; Nicolas Maczugowski extended his high jump record to 1.25m and Ella Whitford set a new mark in the speed bounce with 58 repetitions.

In the U13 boys, Joe Wheeler put in another sterling performance winning the two and six races and the vertical jump and Max Port, who missed the Devon Championships through injury, returned to win the triple jump.

Performances from the event will have contributed towards potential selection to represent Devon at the forthcoming Sportshall regionals to be held in March.
