TAVISTOCK Atheletic Club lead the Devon Open League with one meeting to go after 242 athletes descended on The Brickfields track in Plymouth for the third league event of the season. Tavistock Athletic arrived with a strong team of juniors and vets and proceeded to increase their lead further. There were some fine individual performance from all age groups. James Lamb (24), Edward Mills (24) and Josh Craddock (14) gained 62 points for the U10 boys and Alex Kinsey (17), Charlotte Walker (12) and Hannah Walker (6) scored 35 points for the U10 Girls. The U11 boys Leighton Howe (7), Daniel Mercer (18), William Russell (12) and Harry Tomlin (11) and the U11 girls Helena Woodbridge-Harris (14) and Annelie M'Hand (14) picked up 76pts between them. 117 points were added to the tally by the U13s of Jake Walker (26), Lee Shipton (16), Edward Fileman (21), Sarah Bull (21), Olivia Bull (7), Natasha Farrington (15), Tegan Holdaway (3) and Tayla James (8). Josh Davies (28), Tom Brew (8), Benjamin Rogers (24), Jude White (8), Adam Creasey (20), Joely Bytheway (23) and Hannah Chapman (6) made the U15 score also 117 points. Tom also took bronze medal in the county 3,000m championship. The U17 men and women added 95 points through Charlie Shipton (19), Will Dax (9), Joshua Blake (10), Jennifer Sabine (20), Jade Kinsey (9) and Emma Ryder (26). Will gained a silver medal in the county 3,000m championship. Dean Smith, the sole U20 representative scored 10 pts and the senior women's 4x100m relay team of Hazel Walker, Mhairi McCall, Rebecca Exley-Deane and Jennifer Sabine scored a further 10 points. Next it was the veterans athletes' turn to clock up the points – Rebecca Exley-Deane was top scorer with 49 points, closely followed by Jason Shipton and Hazel Walker with 45 each. Tony Symons (33), Bob Chapman (12), Martin Exley-Deane (15), Lisa Mabey (20), Mhairi McCall (9) and Kate Rogers (38) were the other point scorers. The vet men's 4x100m relay team of Bob, Tony, Jason and Allan Herdman gained 10 points too. All these scores, added to the results gained at Braunton and Tavistock, give Tavistock AC a total league score of 2835 points with Exeter Harriers in second place with 2,340 and North Devon in third place on 2,232. The fourth, and final meeting is being held at Tavistock on August 10 with the host team in a very strong position to take the 2014 Devon Open League title.
