THE warm spring weather and a course that is in great condition is an excellent start to the golfing season at Tavistock Golf Club.
There were more than a 100 entrants in the mens Knape Medal with Graham Ruth topping division one with a nett 67 on countback from Mark Russell and Pete Stankevitch. In division two scoring was close with Geoff Shepherd on a nett 68, second Andy Rich nett 69 and third Adrian Beer with nett 70. Mark Stephens in division three had a nett 65 with Daniel Poole in second place with nett 71 on countback from John Williams and Garry White. In the Shotgun foursomes John Harding and David Bryant had the winning score of 81. Second with 83 were Dave Burge and Shaun Kiely and third with 84 were Brett Mannering and Martin Channon.
In the four ball better ball Stableford Kenny Mackenzie had 42 points with Martin Channon and Brett Mannering second with 41.
A record number of ladies entered the monthly Stableford. In division one first was Sharon Williams with 36pts, second Jayne Wright 35 and third was Veronika Haydon-Jones with 34. Sue Coles was first in division two with 34pts on countback from Norma Thewlis with Sally Timpson third with 31. Peggy Burge had a superb 42pts in division three, Sam Avens was second with 38 and third Ann Dawson with 37.
n In beautiful sunshine Tavistock Golf Course was the perfect setting for their Open Day.
'We were delighted with the reponse,' said club secretary Jonathan Coe, 'More than 40 people attended including youngsters taking advantage of the special offers to join the club — offers which are still available until April 1. In a time when everyone is watching their expenditure we think that this is quite an achievement.'
