SOUTH Tawton Primary pupils continue to do their school proud at sport, as the school team represented the area in a regional athletics competition.

The 18 member team came ninth out of 16 schools taking part in a county indoor athletics competition held in Torbay recently. The team reached the competition having won the Okehampton area indoor athletics competition back in December. It was the third year in a row the school won the contests, competing against other primary schools in a variety of athletic contests including the long jump and running races.

At the Devon event, pupils put in a number of strong individual performances as part of a fantastic team effort to claim ninth place.

Teacher Nikki Hutchings said: 'I am over the moon with how they have done, yet again. They really were a credit to the school, acting incredibly well behaved, and representing South Tawton in the best way possible.' Out of county and regional events held across the country, South Tawton also made the top 100 ranked schools.

She added: 'It is an amazing performance for the kids to have made the top 100 rankings. To have come so high out of schools across the county and the rest of the country is a real achievement for them, and the school is very proud of their efforts.'
