KELLY College Performance Swimming began the 2014 Devon County Championships with a number of excellent swims in the 800m and 1500m freestyle.

The team of 17 swimmers finished the first day with one national qualifying time, eight regional qualifying times, 12 personal bests and six medals .

In the girls' 800m freestyle, Rebecca Carpenter (aged 11) and Honor Kingsley Smith (13) both finished second and Victoria Moore was placed fifth in the 14 years age group.

In the 15 years age group, Emily Cutler claimed silver, Millie Murdoch bronze and Nina Giudici finished fifth. Stephanie Reynolds posted a new national qualifying time in a time of 9minutes 19.99 seconds to finish fourth in the open age group, and Leah Picillo also set a superb PB to claim sixth.

In the boys' 1,500m freestyle, Jack Hutchin (12) finished second in the 12 years age group. In the 13 years age group, Kelly swimmers showed their dominance, claiming first, second, fourth, fifth and 10th.

Nathan Linden took the gold in great new PB of 18.07.37, Tom Brew also swam to a new PB to finish second in 18.48.79, Tom Harrison was fourth in his first ever 1,500m, Jacob Newcombe fifth, again in new PB and Guy Purbrick smashed his PB by over three minutes to finish 10th.

Jake Bentley also set a new PB to claim fourth in the 14 years age group and Harry Hathaway and Dave Colley finished fourth and sixth respectively in the open age group.

It was a great start to the Devon County Championships for Kelly Performance Swimming. The team will be in action again this weekend at Plymouth Life Centre.
