BERE Alston Trekkers (Bats) hosted their first Sport Relief Mile at the weekend and were completely overwhelmed with the numbers taking part.
There were more than 150 taking part overall. The majority of these were running the one mile course around the recreation field with others taking part in the three and six mile leg and all finished on the field to big cheers and applauds from well wishers.
The one milers were sent of in two heats, the first for those who really wanted to run a great one mile time and the second heat consisted of the fancy dress, the piggy-backs, the flip-flop runners and babies being either pushed or carried.
Starting and leading all distances was Adam Holland who not only ran the one mile and the three mile but was also first runner home for the six miler.
Refreshments raised £120 for Sport Relief.
Dotty Allan, club chair and race director, thanked everybody who volunteered their time — to the marshals, the people who helped with registration, those on the finishing line and those provided or helped with refreshments.
She also thanked Adam Smith, Bere Ferrers Parish Council, Adam Holland and all the club members who gave up their time to help make the Bere Pen Mile a great event for the whole community.
