Devon and Exeter division three
Lympstone 1
South Zeal Utd 1
IN one of the few football games played at the weekend South Zeal from East Devon came away with an impressive point.
On a hard pitch with a cold wind blowing off the Exe estuary South Zeal produced a good performance and should have come away with all three points.
Kicking against the wind in the first half the visitors' defence were tremendous as the home side had most of the attacking play hoping to get a lead to take into the second half.
However when South Zeal did attack they were dangerous and Tom Reilly was unlucky to see his header from a Redd Cann corner come off the bar; Darren Gilbert was foiled by the Lympstone keeper when through on goal.
With the wind at their backs in the second half South Zeal dominated and took the lead with 20 minutes to go when Harley Cann was tripped in the area and Daniel Gibbs put away the spot kick.
Lympstone had barely a shot in the second half but equalised with 10 minutes left with a good finish that gave the excellent Reg Wonnacott in the South Zeal goal no chance.
In the final 10 minutes South Zeal made some great chances the best a great dribble by Dan Wakeham from his own penalty area but his shot was blocked by the Lympstone keeper leaving both teams with a point.
