CONSERVATIVE C shocked the Tavistock Snooker League last Thursday by audaciously beating high flying West Devon D with a 3-2 win.
Toby Jago put into place all he had learned from his father, skipper Clive, to put Con C one up as he slowly edged out Decieco in a game littered with errors.
It was soon to be two up as a resurgent Davey, who is proving to be a real asset to his team, stayed the course to ‘out grind’ Jack May, pulling the game out of the fire with an 18 break at the death.
Murton for West Devon though proceeded to put a spoke in the Con C’s party with a good win over the normally steady Dodd, who was unable to calm Murton’s potting.
The win was sealed for the Con C with two potters going head to head in the form of West Devon’s Paul Shrimpton and Con C’s Neale. On this occasion it was Neale that got the better of things.
Skipper Hooper for the West Devon, brought up a ‘rear guard’ action to ‘nick’ the final frame against Weldon in the lowest of scoring frames.
Conservative Z were unable to reproduce their form from last season when they took three points from Conservative A, who appeared to have revenge in mind, and they certainly took it. Lacey took to the table with great determination against Conservative Z’s McKechnie, who never got back in the frame after Lacey’s 22 break. Jankowski put up a decent rear guard action against the Con A’s formidable Tommy Evans, but was always second best against a resolute opponent as Con Z went 0-2 down.
Hall retained some semblance of pride for Con Z after a black ball finish went against Bell, who went in off the black; this was a real let off for Con Z as Bell played so well, yet ended up losing.
Last week’s hero for Con Z, Symons, collapsed totally against a rampant Babb, not even reaching double figures.
All hopes for Con Z were pinned on Mayors in the final frame but his opponent was the virtually unbeatable Carruthers.
Despite Mayors’ best efforts he found it impossible to get a look in, and conceded with a good number of balls still on the table as Conservative Z lost 4-1.
