SIX amateur triathletes from Tavistock will be heading out to Ibiza this week to represent Team GB at the ETU Multisport European Championships.

Following qualification, Hannah Worth, Oliver Beilby, Lindsay Hobbs, Nicky Deane-Simmons and Sam Lake will be taking part in the middle-distance event on Saturday, October 27.

The middle-distance race consists of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, finishing with a 13.1-mile run (half marathon distance).

Helen Kula-Przezwanski and Sam Lake also took part in Sprint Aquathlon Championship race yesterday (October 24), which included a 1.5km swim followed by a 5km run.

Hannah Worth, chairperson at Tavistock Triathlon Club, said: ‘It is excellent to see such a strong representation from Tavistock at the European Championships. It’s a credit to our strong local club network and the stunning facilities we’re able to make use of here in the town. We have a chance of doing pretty well in our respective age-groups too. It will be great to cheer each other on and celebrate Ibiza style after the races. Conditions are looking good with the temperature likely to be in the mid-twenties.’

This will be the final race of the season for most of the Tavistock athletes flying out and will see the closure of a hard season of training and racing.

Oliver Beilby and Nicky Dean-Simmons have already secured their slots for the 2019 70.3 Ironman World Championships in Nice, following their qualification at Weymouth 70.3 Ironman race in September - this means their planning will be underway for the 2019 season already.
