Camelford 3

CAMELFORD came from behind to deservedly take all three points at Langsford Park.

The Lambs got off to a reasonable start and put the visitors' defence under pressure in the opening quarter, but Camelford always looked dangerous on the counter attack.

Joe Carey created the best opening for the home side in the fifth minute when he made a penetrating run from midfield and set up Johnny Wyatt but his goal bound shot was deflected away for a corner kick.

The home team took the lead in the 21st minute when Joe Carey thundered home a shot into the top corner of the visitors net from 25 yards out. The Camels were level eleven minutes later when the home defence failed to clear their lines. Sam Chitty lost possession in his own penalty area when challenged by Gusterson and the ball fell to Patrick Rushton who calmly beat another defender and place his shot just inside the far post from ten yards out.

This shook the Lambs, who had looked to be in control until this set back. It was the visitors who gained confidence and raised their game after this gift from the home side, and played some really good football for the rest of the first half.

Two minutes later the Camels took the lead when a great move down the right flank saw Liam Sandercock break free, before cutting inside to fire home a tremendous shot into the top corner of the net. The Lambs were outplayed for the remainder of the first half.

After the break the Lambs raised the tempo and started to get the upper hand, putting the visitors defence under considerable pressure.

The Camels defence soaked up immense pressure but the Lambs could not break down a resolute defence.

Both Johnny Wyatt and Ian Holms had efforts well saved by the keeper, but the Lambs lacked their usual quality in their attacking third of the pitch. Credit must go to the visitors as they got everyone behind the ball, and repeatedly cleared their lines when the home team threatened to create an equaliser.

The Lambs continued to mount attack after attack. Ben Davies was unlucky when his great run down the right, and into the danger area, saw his shot go inches wide of the target. Ian Holmes almost equalised but somehow his shot was deflected away for another corner. The Lambs pushed more and more players forward to try and get that illusive goal, but were continually being thwarted by some great last ditch defending and good goal keeping.

In the dying seconds, the Lambs were caught short of numbers at the back, with everyone except keeper Andy Meeds, in the visitors half, a long clearance from the visitors penalty area found Mark Gusterson free and he slotted the ball home to complete the scoring.

The Lambs will be disappointed with this result as it was two bad defensive mistakes that cost them the game. The team never really got their fluent passing game going on a very heavy playing surface.

Lack of fixtures due to cancellations over the past six weeks certainly contributed to a below par performance.
