Exeter Unversity E 1

Okehampton 3

OKEHAMPTON travelled to the university on the back of an improving display last time out in their 3-3 draw with Sidmouth and Ottery.

The visitors started positively and taking the hockey game to their opponents they looked threatening; early half chances were created but failed to materialise.

Lacking any conviction up front the Oke defence looked solid and comfortable in the first half with Luke Liversidge and Andy Strong being protected superbly by Ross Davidson and Oke man of the match Will Cooper.

A counter attacking move saw the away side take the lead when Sam Whalley found Mark Parsons who ran into the area; his pass fell kindly to Simon Bourne, who coolly slotted the ball into the unguarded goal.

As the visitors pressed they won a short corner and Whalley then doubled their lead with a nicely placed drag flick into the bottom corner.

The second half started in the same fashion as Oke continued to dominate without being able to build on their lead.

The home side then found a way back when they got a short corner which they mid hit their way into the goal. Keeper Andy Harvey then produced a excellent diving save to deny a buoyed University but as they started to apply some late pressure a defensive slip on the half way line allowed Parsons to collect the ball and run through, slotting the ball calmly past the on rushing keeper.

This was an excellent first win and a performance to go with it.
