THE children at St Andrew’s Primary School in Buckland Monachorum have been competing in their second triathlon to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The afternoon’s activities started with a warm up routine for the whole school led by Stacy O’Connor. Then the Key Stage 1 children led the way with a ‘Race for Life’ cross country fun run around the village and across the fields. They all enthusiastically completed the route in an astonishingly fast time.
The competition heated up when the mini triathlon got underway. The Key stage 2 entrants competed against their year group peers in swimming, cycling and running. In true triathlon spirit they finished the swim element and were straight onto their bikes to cycle the course that had been set up on the school’s playing fields. From there they were off with gusto on foot for the cross country element around the village.
The afternoon was topped off when the awards were handed out by Great British triathletes Ollie Beilby and Trish Deykin.
Last year the children raised more than £1,000 in sponsorship for Cancer Research uk and we are hoping that we can top that figure this year.
The parents, teachers and children all agreed it was the most fabulous day and organisers thanked all those who made the day such a success.
