Duchy three
Stoke Climsland 1
St Minver 3
Stoke Climsland surrendered their 100 per cent record and place at the top of the league after succumbing to two late goals from Chris Simmons and Steve Wooton in a 3-1 home defeat to St Minver.
It was the away side that dominated proceedings early on and they could have been a goal up in the first minute but for a fine near post save from stand in Stoke goalkeeper Sam Borthwick.
The pressure from St Minver was incessant and they had a great opportunity to open the scoring in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after Mike Baker upended a Minver forward in the box but again Borthwick denied the visitors with a superb save to tip the penalty on to the post.
However, the away side broke the deadlock soon after through Jason Northcott, who coolly slotted past Borthwick after a blocked shot fell kindly to him in the penalty box.
Stoke drew level through Ryan Allen who capitalised on a poor punch from the away goalkeeper to head into an empty net from an Andy Cradick set piece. This goal brought the best period of the half for Stoke and Tom Cleveland almost put the hosts ahead after getting in behind the St Minver defence but the goalkeeper did well to deny Cleveland with a smart save at his near post. After half-time, Stoke matched their opponents for large periods of the second half and came close, first through an Andrew Morris header and then later from a low driven shot from substitute Josh Searle that the away goalkeeper did well to hang on to.
With just seven minutes remaining the crucial breakthrough came. From a corner St Minver substitute Chris Simmons pounced from close range to give his side the lead and Steve Wooton made the points safe for the away side with a shot from outside the box.
