RUNNERS from the Tavistock Run Project have had another successful spell in recent weeks.
Sam Lake recently competed at another international event — this time at the European Middle Distance Triathlon Championships in Herning, Denmark, where she was selected to represent the Great Britain Age group team again.
It was a very warm day which began with a 2km swim in a large lake followed by an undulating 90km (56mile) bike section and finally a tough 21km (13mile) four lap run through the city centre of Herning, including running through a library building.
Sam smashed her previous middle distance PB by almost 30 minutes to finish a strong tenth place in Europe.
Sam also raced at the annual Devon County 10,000m track championships held at the local Tavistock track and won overall woman in very hot and humid temperatures.
Rachael Malthouse ran Torbay Half marathon this weekend and came third in her age category in a very respectable time of 1 hour 35 minutes 28 seconds.
Steve Watson raced in the Burrator Horseshoe — a seven mile moorland run from Meavy and out over Dartmoor, via Burrator Reservoir, Sheepstor Dam, Sheepstor Summit, Guttor Tor Summit, Ringmoor Down and Meavy River Ford.
Steve ran another excellent race to add to his season of successes in 50.58, first Tavistock athletics runner home and 11th place overall.
Meanwhile over at Exeter the Women’s Network Running held their second successive running event.
Hundreds of women turned out in the searing Sunday heat to compete in the 5km or 10km races. Emma Dooney of TRP ran a superb race in the 5km race to achieve her first podium and win of the season. She was first in 24.08.
