Plympton Victoria 7

WITH Plympton Victoria not being able to field the full 15 players for this league fixture the important matter of the league points was done and dusted before a ball was kicked.

North Tawton were awarded all five points, which keeps them top of the league with a game in hand over all except Buckfastleigh, who lie in second place.

As it was, not to disappoint the hardy few their weekly rugby fix that’s players and supporters alike North Tawton lent the visitors a couple of players. Although in essence now a ‘friendly’, there were three yellow cards.

The match was played on the back pitch with five tries in the first half, a brace for Luke Dennis, one each for Craig Dennis, Matt Dennis and Conner Mathis all converted by James Bowden to give the homes side a 35-0 half-time lead.

The second half got underway with a switch that put Jabby Fewings at winger for Plympton Victoria and Bill Sharp into the centre for the away select while BIlly Butler went on the wing. Sharp gave the visitors a lot more bite in attack and with Fewings having a good game for both sides it was not all as the score board would suggest.

A good try by James Bowden took the score to 40-0, the only kick Bowden missed all day was to convert his own try.

The best move of the day for the away side came from the enigmatic Tawton winger Jabby Fewings who, on making the most of loose play from his usual team mates, went under the post for the visitors only try.

The home fans are looking forward to seeing the replay in a black and gold shirt.

This was at best a good blow-out to get rid of any Christmas cobwebs for North Tawton, who will no doubt face a lot sterner tests in the following weeks in their quest to get back into Devon League one.
