HATHERLEIGH Football Club honoured a lifelong supporter before their recent home game against Beer Albion.

Players and supporters honoured a former player and club president Roy Alford, who died at the end of last year aged 74. A shield, named in his honour, was presented to Luke Reynolds in recognition of being the club's top goal scorer for the previous season. It was presented by Roy's son, Nick, and grandson, Niall aged 10.

'This is a fitting tribute to my dad', said Nick. 'The club was a big part of his life. He continued to attend matches until shortly before he died so I'm sure he would have been pleased to have an award named after him and feel very proud that his grandson was able to make the presentation.'
